  • The venue for the daily lectures is the Jubilee Science Lab on the Ground Floor of Collegiate and will start promptly at 12:30 every day.
  • Bookings for lectures are essential, this is done through Computicket prior to the Festival. Tickets can also be bought at Registration during the Festival depending on availability of seats.

This Eastern Cape Project is one of the most notable and successful traditional craft projects in South Africa. Their work is a regular feature at exhibitions in South Africa and they gained International acclaim for their travelling exhibitions abroad. The most notable work from the Project is the 120 metre long Keiskamma Tapestry, an exquisite embroidery telling the intricate history of the Eastern Cape Frontier which hangs in the Parliament Buildings in Cape Town.

Cebo will talk about his role as a leader of a team of mostly women artists and embroiderers. He will focus on traditional ceramics and crafts, his childhood and how he learnt to embroider.

In a small street in old Islamic Cairo there are twenty two tentmaker shops. Tent-making is a very old art as the first tent with an appliqued interior was found in a tomb that dated from Egypt’s 21st Dynasty – between 1047 and 967 BC. The men stitch perfect needle turn applique – amazingly fast and with very simple tools. Jenny has worked with the men since 2005 and will talk about the complex society of the street, its occupants, how they make their work and of the threat to their art form.
